Dear Colleagues,

It is MEACO’s pleasure to invite you to join us at the 10th International Congress of the MEACO in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

MEACO’s congresses are the largest ophthalmic meetings in the Middle East and Africa Region. With anticipated enthusiasm we look forward to the participation of ophthalmologists and eye care professionals, from the region as well as from the four corners of the world. The successful accomplishments of the last meeting in Dubai, in 2007,as well as the extensive scientific program and the participation of several distinguished international societies has prompted us to increase the duration of the meeting to five days instead of four.

The MEACO 2009 will witness stronger collaboration and participation by two major international organizations:

· The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO)

· The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO)

Both organizations will exclusively organize several symposia covering different specialties in Ophthalmology. These will be presented by eminent speakers who are well known in their respective fields.

There will also be special sessions by:

· Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis (AOI)

· Club Jules Gonin (on Diabetic Retinopathy)

· American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS)

· International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS/AAO)

· International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB)

The participation of such a distinguished group of ophthalmic societies is going to provide a very strong and interesting scientific program. It will bring the experiences of prominent experts from around the world to our attendees of MEACO 2009.

MEACO 2009 Congress will also witness:

· A two days meeting of experts on “VISION2020 Evaluation of Progress and Setting up Progress Indicators“

· Board meeting of the ICO.

· Board of Trustees meeting of the IAPB.

Abstract submission is now open until 15 October 2008. Online Registration, housing and visa application will be open on 31 August 2008.

We look forward to welcoming you in March 2009 in Bahrain.
