    MEAJO now indexed on PubMed

MEACO is pleased to announce that its official journal, MEAJO, is now indexed on PubMed.

PubMed is a free database accessing the MEDLINE database of citations, abstracts and some full text articles on life sciences and biomedical topics.

One can search the articles published in MEAJO from 2009 onwards from PubMed by clicking here. The full text of the journal is also archived with PMC, click here.

This milestone would not have been possible without the support of its dedicated leaders, the Editor in Chief, Dr. Deepak Edward, and the highly enthusiastic Editorial Board who believed in this project and dedicated their time and effort to attract high-quality manuscripts focused on research related to issues in the region, and the contributors that submitted their researches to the journal. MEAJO looks forward to more of your support and patronage

    Emergent infectious uveitis

Infectious causes should always be considered in patients with uveitis and ruled out. Differential diagnosis includes multiple diseases including herpes, syphilis, toxoplasmosis, tuberculosis, bartonellosis, Lyme disease, and others. However, clinicians should be aware of emerging infectious agents as potential causes of systemic illness and intraocular inflammation. Air travel, immigration, and globalization of business have contributed to these infectious diseases. This review recapitulates systemic and ocular mainfestations of several emergent infectious diseases relevant to the ophthalmologist including Rickettsioses, West Nile virus infection, Rift valley fever, dengue fever, and chikungunya. Retinitis, chorioretinitis, retinal vasculitis, and optic nerve involvement have been associated with these emergent infectious diseases. The diagnosis of any of these infections is usually based on pattern of uveitis, systemic symptoms and signs, and specific epidemiological data and confirmed by detection of specific antibody in serum.

Appraisal, work-up and diagnosis of anterior uveitis: A practical approach

Uveitis is an obscure and complicated field in ophthalmology restricted to few who had the knowledge to treat. Ophthalmologists turned away from uveitis or were not knowledgeable when they chose to take care of uveitis patients. The consequences of this fell to patients. Over 15 years, our group has been represented by the Society for Ophthalmo-Immunoinfectiology in Europe (SOIE), which has been working to provide basic knowledge of uveitis to practicing ophthalmologists. Our firm believe is that up to 70% of uveitis cases, especially anterior uveitis, can be treated by ophthalmologists following a structured approach in the uveitis case. Judging from attendance obtained, the response to our approach where we offer classes has been inversely proportional to the previous disinterest since we started publicizing it.
