Dr. M. Alaa El-Danasoury, Chairman of Scientific Program Committee in MEACO has been
elected as the next President of the International Society for Refractive Surgery of
the American Academy of Ophthalmology (ISRS/AAO) starting January 2010. On this occasion,
MEACO would like to congratulate him on his new position and wish him all the best for his future endeavors.

Dr. Mohammed Younis has recently been elected as the President of the Lebanese Ophthalmological Society.
Jordanian Ophthalmological Society
Dr. Haytham ElBakri has recently been elected as the President of the Jordanian Ophthalmological Society.
Syrian Ophthalmological Society (SOS)
Dr. Ali Serjieh has recently been elected as the President of the SOS and Dr. Tarek Mousa as the Secretary General.

MEACO Supports Uveitis
Symposium in Nigeria

MEACO is co-sponsoring a Uveitis subspecialty symposium during the forthcoming congress of the
Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria (OSN) to be held in Lagos, Nigeria from the 24th to 26th of September 2009.
Two regional experts in Uveitis –Professor Moncef Khairallah from Tunisia and Dr. Hassan Al- Dhibi from
Saudi Arabia will be organizinging the symposium on the 25th of September 2009. Topics to be covered during
the symposium include the epidemiology, immunology, pathogenesis, diagnostic/imaging procedures and
current treatment options for Uveitis. This symposium is expected to provide a spring board for the
formation of Uveitis subspecialty group within the OSN. Subspecialty groups like anterior segment, glaucoma,
pediatrics, Retina e.t.c. had existed in OSN for years.

Middle East African Journal of Ophthalmology (MEAJO) is a quarterly published peer-reviewed
scientific journal with a distinguished editorial and advisory board. It has gained popularity
