MEACO supports the 14th Nadi Al Bassar International Course through MEAVRS and MEAGS
MEACO supports the 14th Nadi Al Bassar International Course through the participation of the Middle East Africa Glaucoma Society (MEAGS) and Middle East Africa Vitreo-Retina Society (MEAVRS). It will be held from 3-4 June 2011 at the Hotel Ramada in Tunis, Tunisia. The keynote speakers are Drs. Alan Bird and Robert Ritch. Dr. Bird’s presentations will focus on Posterior Segment Trauma and Current Trends in the Management of Diabetic Retinopathy and Dr. Ritch will cover topics on Treatment of Exfoliative Glaucoma and its Potential Prevention and Normal-tension Glaucoma: A Nocturnal Disease. MEAVRS participates in the 1st Palestinian International Ophthalmic Conference
MEACO, through the Middle East Africa Vitreo-Retina Society (MEAVRS), will participate at the 1st Palestinian International Ophthalmic Conference. The meeting is scheduled from 8 - 10 June 2011 at the Movenpick Hotel in Ramallah, Palestine. MEAVRS participation will be a course on Diabetic Reitnopathy which will be presented through video conferencing on 9 June 2011 from 9:00am to 11:00am. Saudi Ophthalmological Society supports WOC2012
The General Assembly of the Saudi Ophthalmological Society, had unanimously agreed to cancel its annual meeting for 2012 to strongly support World Ophthalmology Congress 2012 that will be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE from 16 to 20 February. This is the first WOC in the Middle East and Africa.
OSSA elects new officers
The Ophthalmological Society of South Africa (OSSA) has elected its new officers during the OSSA Congress in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on March 26, 2011. The new president is Dr. Deon Doubell and the vice president is Dr. Kgao Legodi. Dr. Legodi is also a MEAVRS board member and Public Relations Officer. MEACO takes this opportunity to congratulate them and wishes the best during their tenure at OSSA

Saudi Ophthalmology 2011 Symposium successfully concluded
The Saudi Ophthalmology 2011 Symposium, which was held at the King Fahd Cultural Center in Riyadh from 27 February to 2 March 2011, has successfully concluded with approximately 1,800 attendees and 35 exhibitors. The symposium was the combined meeting of the 28th Annual Symposium of the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital and the 24th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Saudi Ophthalmological Society in collaboration with the King Saud University.
Dr. Elizabeth Engle from Harvard Medical School (USA) gave the King Khaled Memorial Lecture; Dr. Khalid Tabbara from The Eye Center (KSA) gave the SOS Gold Medal lecture and Prof Harminder Dua from Nottingham University Hospital (UK) presented the Prevention of Blindness Shield lecture.

Saudi PB Shield awardee, Harminder Dua elected as President of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists
The 2011 Saudi Prevention of Blindness Shield awardee, Professor Harminder Dua who is currently the Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Arts at the Nottingham University Hospital (UK) and also the Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Ophthalmology, was elected as the 9th President of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He will take office at the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 25th May, which will be held in Birmingham.
