WOC Baton passed on to MEACO

The Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO) received the baton to host the next World Ophthalmology Congress® (WOC) in 2012. The handing over was performed on the 8th of June 2010 at a reception in Berlin, Germany during the just concluded WOC® 2010. With this Dr. Abdulaziz AlRajhi, President of MEACO, becomes the President of WOC 2012. Dr. AlRajhi assured the global ophthalmology community that the WOC 2012 would provide a rich scientific session which would enhance the knowledge and training of the attendees and cater for the educational needs of the region, in addition to a scintillating social program. The city of Abu Dhabi, UAE was chosen to host this big event because it serves as an international hub, linking the east and the west globally, with a rich cultural history and serving as a perfect business and family travel destination. WOC 2012 will be held from February 16 – 20, 2012 at one of the most modern exhibition centers in the world- the new Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC). WOC 2012 is projected to attract at least 12,000 participants worldwide.

Research Grants for Middle East and African countries The U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation has announced a research grant for some Middle East and African countries. The grant is for research in ophthalmology and it is worth $25,000. Deadline for applying is August 30, 2010. Please find details here.

WOC2012 Updates
	MEACO organizes the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) 2012 on behalf of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) and with the support of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA).  The WOC 2012 will be held in Abu Dhabi from 16-20 February 2012 in the most modern convention center in the world the "Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center".
